Are modern radiators better than old ones?

Are modern radiators better than old ones?

Modern radiators are no more efficient than old ones. The heat output depends on the temperature drop across the whole radiator and the cross sectional area of heat exchanger. Thus radiators with fins output heat more quickly than those without, but require a greater flow of hot water losing temperature to do so.

Are modern radiators more efficient than cast iron?

Your boiler will benefit from having a cast iron radiator because the temperature of the water that is returning to the boiler is hotter, as opposed to modern steel radiators. This is because a cast iron radiator will hold its heat for longer, providing better energy efficient heating.

Is it worth upgrading old radiators?

However, unless you’re moving into a new build, you should at least consider replacing your radiators. Despite usually having a longer lifespan, radiators can’t last forever and all the benefits of your new boiler can disappear if they’re used to supply water to outdated radiators.

Are modern radiators any good?

yes. That’s because even though, as a general rule of thumb, vertical designer radiators do not achieve the same heating performance of more traditional, horizontal radiators, if you do your homework and choose the right model, you can find a solution that not only looks great, but heats your room efficiently too.

What Colour radiator gives out the most heat?

matt black
Coloured radiators finished with paint will tend to produce a 25% or so higher heat output. Strictly speaking in scientific terms, matt black is the very most efficient radiator colour choice. However, the difference in heat output between this style and a white radiator, for instance, would only be around 1%.

What’s the difference between modern and old radiators?

All radiators heat rooms by convection, older rads will have no fins on them making there convection ability a lot less efficient than more modern ones, a smaller modern rad will suffice in place of a much larger old style one.

What kind of radiators are used in Victorian homes?

These modern takes on classic cast iron Victorian radiators give you the best of both heated worlds – character and period personality, but also extreme efficiency, ensuring your home not only looks the part, but is also warm and cosy!

What kind of cast iron radiators are there?

These vintage-style cast iron radiators range from the detailed and bold styles such as the centurion, to the more simple and effective Spartan 2 Column radiator.

How big is an old radiator in a kitchen?

Currently I have in my kitchen an old double radiator (no fins) – size is approx 590mm by 800mm. My mum is redoing her bathroom and is replacing her radiator with a heated towel radiator so has a reasonably new radiator I could use. It’s a single panel, single fin of approximately 600mm by 700mm.
